Privacy
The short version
The Matcha QR QR code generator runs entirely in your browser. What you type, and any logo you add, never leaves your device. We don't set cookies, we don't have accounts, and we don't ask for your name or email.
What happens to what you type
When you fill in a link, a Wi-Fi password, contact details or anything else, the code is drawn by the page itself, on your device. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your details and your logo are held in the open page only. They are gone when you close or reload the tab, and we don't save them to your browser's storage.
- The test scan that checks your code also runs on your device.
- Downloads (SVG and PNG) are created on your device and saved straight to it.
- What you type is never added to the page address, so it can't end up in our visitor statistics or anyone's server logs.
What we measure
Matcha QR uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, so we know which pages are useful and whether the site loads quickly. It records:
- which page on this site was opened,
- the website that linked you here, if any,
- your country, worked out from your connection,
- your browser, operating system and type of device (phone, tablet or computer),
- how long the page took to load.
Cloudflare says this tool does not use cookies or browser storage and does not try to identify or follow individual visitors. We see only totals, such as "120 visits from Brazil this week". We never send anything you type into the generator to the analytics.
Services that see your visit
Like any website, this one is delivered by other companies. When your browser loads a page, these services receive your IP address and basic browser information as part of the request:
- Cloudflare hosts Matcha QR and protects it from attacks. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces. Google's privacy policy.
- jsDelivr supplies the two open-source code libraries that draw and test-scan QR codes. jsDelivr's privacy policy.
These services receive the request for the page, the font or the library. They do not receive what you type into the generator.
When someone scans your code
Free codes made with Matcha QR hold their information inside the pattern. When someone scans one, their phone reads it and goes straight to your link, or joins your Wi-Fi, or saves your contact. We are not involved and we don't see the scan.
Cookies
We don't set any cookies. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie if it needs to check that a visitor is not an automated attack; that is part of its hosting service and is not used for analytics or advertising.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads or sell or share information about visitors.
- We don't build profiles or follow you to other websites.
- We don't collect names, email addresses or payment details. There is nothing to sign up for yet.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (Europe and the UK), the CCPA (California) and India's DPDP Act give you rights over your personal information. Because the generator doesn't collect information about you, there is normally nothing for us to show you, correct or delete. If you have a question, you can contact us using the details below.
Changes to this page
Matcha QR plans to offer changeable QR codes with scan statistics, which will need accounts. Before that launches we will update this page to explain exactly what is collected and why, and change the date at the top.
